VPN Meaning
What does virtual private network mean?
VPN means Virtual Private Network. It works by masking your computer’s IP address when browsing the internet by making it look like your IP address is different than its actual location.
How does a VPN actually work?
A virtual private network (VPN) allows users to send and receive data across shared or public networks by extending a private network across a public network. At its core, a VPN works as if the users devices were directly connected to the private network and not appearing at its actual IP location.

Benefits to VPN users come from the functionality, security, and privacy of the private network. It provides access to resources that may be inaccessible on the public network, and is typically used for telecommuting workers. Encryption is a common, although not an inherent, part of a VPN connection.
A VPN is created by establishing a virtual point-to-point connection through the use of dedicated circuits or with tunneling protocols over existing networks. A VPN available from the public Internet can provide some of the benefits of a wide area network (WAN). From a user perspective, the resources available within the private network can be accessed remotely.

How a VPN Works

Upon activation of a VPN (Virtual Private Network), the VPN provider switches on an encrypted tunnel funneling all of your traffic to its private & secure web server. What this does is effectively make your device appear to be at another location by assigning an alternative IP address to that of your computing device’s real IP address.
To explain how a virtual private network works in non technical language, it works like this. When you leave your home in your car, anyone that want’s to follow you around and spy on your activity only needs to follow you around.
A VPN makes it impossible to follow you online because it allows you to change cars and drive in an underground tunnel so any potential hackers an/or spyware are unable to see your activities.
